8 Facts You Should Know About the 2018 American Music Awards Top Nominees

The nominees list for this year’s highly anticipated American Music Awards is out!
The American Music Awards, the world’s largest fan-voted awards show, is where music enthusiasts watch their favorite artists and pop culture icons come together to honor idols, newcomers and record-breakers in the contemporary music scene. This year, the AMAs return to Blue Ant Entertainment on October 10, Wednesday, LIVE from the US at 8:00AM.
Included in this year’s top nominees are Ed Sheeran and Post Malone, each with six nominations, with Camila Cabello nominated for five awards. Topping the list are Cardi B and Drake, both of whom could take home as many as eight AMA wins this year. But also notable is global K-Pop sensation BTS, who’s nominated for Favorite Social Artist.
Below are some noteworthy facts you should know about this year’s top nominees:
1. Five-time American Music Award nominee Camila Cabello was the first soloist since 2003, to top both the Billboard 200 and Billboard Hot 100 at the same time with her first ever No. 1 entry, “Havana”.
2. Cardi B was the first female rapper to top the Billboard Hot 100 without the assistance of any other credited acts since 1998, with her smash solo single “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)”.
3. Five-time American Music Award winner Drake set the all-time record for the largest on-demand audio streaming week ever for an album with Scorpion, his eighth No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
4. Breakout R&B star Khalid comes with four nominations this year; his debut album, American Teen, has spent 16 weeks at No. 1 on the R&B Albums chart, and has yet to leave the top 5 after more than 75 weeks on the tally.
5. A six-time nominee at this year’s AMAs, Post Malone charted more than a dozen top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 in the last year, including his first two No. 1s, “Rockstar,” featuring 21 Savage, and “Psycho,” featuring Ty Dolla $ign.
6. Eight-time American Music Award winner Bruno Mars’s latest release, 24K Magic, spent 40 weeks in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart, and launched a quartet of hit singles, including smash hit, “That’s What I Like,” and “Finesse” with Cardi B.
7. American Music Award winner Ed Sheeran’s No. 1 hit, “Perfect” guest-starring Beyoncé, has remained on the Hot 100 for over a year, with his album ÷ (Divide), still on the top 40 of the Billboard 200 chart.
8. 19-time American Music Award winner, and current four-time nominee, Taylor Swift sold 1.22 million copies of her record-breaking album "Reputation," just in its first week, making her the only artist to achieve four million-selling weeks.
