What is cable cutting?

Cable-cutting occurs when fiber-optic cables of telco, cable or internet providers are cut or damaged, resulting in signal disruptions in large areas. Cable-cutting may be accidental or intentional.

Accidental Cable-Cutting: When cables are cut or damaged when hit by a truck or during tree- or pole-cleaning activities.

Intentional Cable-Cutting: When perpetrators intentionally cut cables to steal copper wires found in cables for profit, with no regard for the damage and service disruption they cause, this is considered intentional cable-cutting. This is illegal, considered a crime and is punishable by law.

Community Relations

We actively partner with local government units to boost information dissemination about illegal cable-cutting and facilitate smoother coordination when service disruptions occur

The National Telecommunications Security Council (NTSC), the Philippine national Police (PNP) and representatives from telcos in the country came together to explore innovative approaches and strategies to curb incidents of theft and illegal cable cutting.
The Manila Department of Engineering and Public Works and the Manila Barangay Bureau expressed their full support for #OplanKontraPutol by establishing a tighter communication channel among telco operators, utility providers, and their good office for fast coordination and reporting of theft and illegal cable cutting incidents within the city.
Officials from Quezon City takes their first action against illegal cable cutting by expressing their full support to #OplanKontraPutol initiatives, deploying additional mobile patrol to monitor hotspot areas and provisions of Quezon City emergency hotline where citizens can use to report cable theft.
Regional Partnerships
Quezon City Task Force on Anti-Dangling wires under the Department of Engineering holds a coordination meeting with other major telco operators to address and curb the increasing cases of illegal cable cutting within the city.

We continue our efforts to reach out to local communities through #OplanKontraPutol Barangayan. #OplanKontraPutol Barangayan is an anti-illegal cable-cutting educational roadshow event that aims to strengthen our information drive and disseminate vital information on illegal cable-cutting and its harmful effects on the community.
