What is a Sun Outage?

Solar interference or sun outage is a natural phenomenon wherein the sun’s radiation interferes with communication satellite transmissions. The interference is caused when the sun is in direct line with a satellite and the sun’s radiation overwhelms the satellites signal. Sun outage occurs twice a year and is predicted to happen on March 5 to 22 and sometime in September and October.

During this period, you may experience poor picture and sound quality on some of your cable TV channels.

How long do sun outages usually last?

Interruption on your cable TV channels usually last for several minutes a day during the period. Interference will occur during March 5-22, and will peak during March 12-16.
