In this new season, Cole (Aaron Stanford) and Cassie (Amanda Schull) must travel to different time periods to stop The Army of the 12 Monkeys, whose master plan finally becomes clear.
Notable stars this season
- Battlestar Galactica alum Michael Hogan has landed a multi-episode arc on 12 Monkeys' second season
- Homeland's David Marciano and Ant-Man star David Dastmalchian will fill guest roles in season two. The pair will debut in episode six of the sci-fi thriller's second season, in scenes set in 1975.
- Jay Karnes (The Shield) will recur as a savvy FBI agent in the 1940s named Robert Gale
- Brendan Coyle (Downtown Abbey) will appear in the season premiere as Dr. Benjamin Kalman, a former Markridge bioengineer racked with guilt over the deadly virus his team gave birth to.

Traveling back in time isn't simple, as James Cole (Bruce Willis) learns the hard way. Imprisoned in the 2030's, James is recruited for a mission that will send him back to the 1990's. Once there, he's supposed to gather information about a nascent plague that's about to exterminate the vast majority of the world's population. But, aside from the manic Jeffrey (Brad Pitt), he gets little in the way of cooperation, not least from medical gatekeepers like Dr. Kathryn Railly (Madeleine Stowe).
